my summer project

as some of you may know, johnny's sister lizi is getting married in january. i am designing and making the dress. the ceremony is taking place on a beach in mexico, so the dress is very simple and easy to walk barefoot in.

its made of silk jersey with silk georgette layered over it. the shoulders have pieces of crepe tacked down to add volume and interest. there is a top layer of georgette that has tucks along the slit to add volume and break up the monotony of a long gathered skirt.

i just started draping today, so i'll post pictures as i go.

this proves i am not useless in the kitchen.

my mom got an alice waters cookbook for her birthday a few weeks ago, so for dinner one night we tried out some recipes.

this is a random assortment of pickled fruit & veg: cucumbers, two kinds of radishes and watermelon. (it sounds gross, but is actually delicious!)

this is an asian version of the caprese salad: thin slices of tofu and cherry tomato halves topped with basil leaves and a sesame/soy sauce dressing. deeee-lish!

i made this corset for my design studio out of upholstery faux leather, accented by 2 rows of sheer taffeta ruffle bits. the seams have plastic boning and the back is closed with a row of hook & eyes.

amazingly confortable and easy vest

i made this vest after getting the idea from psimadethis.com (amazing crafting blog) and decided to use wool instead of fur. essentially it's an oval with two arm holes cut into it.
